UFC President, Dana White, said that he wants to repay Conor McGregor by making the Floyd Mayweather fight happen.
In the lead up to UFC 210, White has spoken extensively and optimistically about the prospects of the mega fight happening. White says that although the fight is not optimal for the UFC, allowing McGregor to make the record amount of money he would command to fight Mayweather would be a great way to repay the fighter for all of his work in the octagon.
“I am [working on it]. The money that’s involved in this thing — listen, does it make a bunch of sense for my business? No. But Conor has been a guy who has stepped up in times of need here, in big fights when an opponent fell out, so I want to do this for Conor. I want him to be able to make this kind of money,” said White on The Chris Mannix Show. “I think we’re actually there [on terms with McGregor]. I think we’re in a good place. I just need to get together with him and finalize some stuff, and then it’s on to Mayweather. ”
“It’s a fight that people do want to see. It’s intriguing and obviously it’s a fight that Conor wants because financially it’s gonna be massive for him,” said White to Colin Cowherd. “McGregor is a guy that I have a lot of respect for. This guy has stepped up in times that people at his level would never step up.
