Manchester United’s incoming manager Ralf Rangnick previously called their star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, “too old and too expensive.”

Rangnick is on course to be named United’s new manager on a six-month contract following the letting go of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this month, says BBC Sport. Rangnick, who previously managed Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, is known for his strict management style and organized and high-intensity play.

While he was the manager at Leipzig, Rangnick was asked if getting Ronaldo or Lionel Messi would add to the team.

“It would be absurd to think that it could work with them here,” he was quoted by SportBible as saying, “they are both too old and too expensive.”

Ragnick’s comments could be a concerning omen for Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United, despite Ronaldo being the team’s most successful player in a struggle-filled season. Since returning to Old Trafford, Ronaldo has scored 10 goals in only 14 games.
