New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram suspended for first 4 games of 2018 season

The New Orleans Saints will start the 2018 season without running back Mark Ingram, their leading rusher from last year.

Ingram, who rushed for a career-high 1,224 yards and 12 touchdowns and added another 416 yards on 58 receptions in 2017, has been suspended for the first four games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, the New Orleans Advocate reported. The suspension puts Ingram on the sidelines for home dates against Tampa Bay in Week 1, Cleveland in Week 2 and road games against Atlanta in Week 3 and New York in Week 4.

But that hardly leaves the cupboard bare in New Orleans. A stable of thoroughbreds led by 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year Alvin Kamara should have no problem carrying the load in Ingram’s absence. The Saints also have Trey Edmunds, Jonathan Williams and Daniel Lasco in the backfield to go along with former Louisiana Tech running back Boston Scott, who was selected in the sixth round of this year’s draft.

The Saints also lucked out with Ingram’s suspension in another respect. He’ll still be allowed to take part in all of the team’s activities this offseason. That means he’ll be allowed to attend training camp as well as play in all four of the Saints’ preseason games. Ingram’s ban from all team facilities won’t begin until their regular season opens on Sept. 9.
