The feud between LeBron James and Charles Barkley has heated up after LeBron responded testily to comments from Barkley.
Recently, James, the homegrown Cleveland talent who is widely considered the best player in the NBA, has taken to the media to insist that the Cleveland Cavaliers need more or different players in order to repeat as NBA Champions. Their major contenders for the title are the Golden State Warriors who LeBron and the Cavs defeated by only four points in a final Game Seven last year. In the offseason, the Warriors added Kevin Durant, who many analysts consider to be the second best basketball player on the planet, on top of their two time NBA Finals reaching roster. Charles Barkley, a former All NBA performer and MVP himself, criticized James for complaining about the Cavs roster.
“Inappropriate. Whiny. All of the above,” said Barkley in reference to James on Inside the NBA last week. “The Cleveland Cavaliers, they have given him everything he wanted. They have the highest payroll in NBA history. He wanted J.R. Smith last summer, they paid him. He wanted [Iman] Shumpert last summer. They brought in Kyle Korver. He’s the best player in the world. Does he want all of the good players? He don’t want to compete?”
Many people believe that LeBron had his fingerprints on the crafting of the current Cavaliers, all the way down to selecting the coach, Tyronn Lue. James, however, is tired of hearing the criticism from Barkley at least.
“He’s a hater,” replied James of Barkley on Monday. “What makes what he says credible? Because he’s on TV?”
