John Cena and Nikki Bella called it quits just weeks before their May wedding, but Cena spoke on Today about his hopes for their future together.

“I had my heart broken out of nowhere — well, for me it was out of nowhere,” Cena told hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on Monday. He described the past few weeks as a series of ups and downs full of personal reflection.

Cena said that he still loved Bella and wanted a marriage and family with her, despite earlier reports that the breakup was due in part to differences in opinion about whether or not to have children, and that he has not been enjoying the single life as other outlets reported.

“No, I was supposed to be married and have a honeymoon over these two weeks,” Cena said. “I am in my house alone surrounded by these emotionally strong memories.”

Cena expressed that he still wants to be supportive of Bella and do what he can to ensure her happiness. An anonymous source told PEOPLE magazine that the pair is quickly working towards a reconciliation, and that they will almost certainly get back together.
