Free agent center, Hassan Whiteside, hopes to have his NBA future figured out by June 1.

The official NBA free agency period begins at 12:01 a.m. on June 1, and Whiteside hopes to be able to inform his current team, the Miami Heat, of his decision on the first day.

“I really don’t think it’s about loyalty — I think it’s just about [finding] the best situation for myself,” explained Whiteside on Sunday. “I didn’t say [Miami] wasn’t the best situation, but we’re going to see what happens. It’s not like I’m really counting the Heat out or counting on another team. It’s just open.”

Whiteside was a surprise player on the NBA scene. He fell out of the NBA and played internationally before returning to be a star for the Heat.

Teams have had questions about his attitude and his dedication to basketball but after averaging approximately 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks a game last season, his talent is undeniable.

At 27 years of age, Whiteside will be one of the most highly sought after free agents in the upcoming free agency pool behind Kevin Durant.

Beyond the Heat, the Golden State Warriors, the Portland Trail Blazers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Dallas Mavericks have all reportedly expressed serious interest in the seven foot athletic big man.

“I find it flattering, because in my past, I was trying to call those teams and now it’s the other way around,” said Whiteside of the free agency attention. “It’s a flattering experience and I’m thankful for this opportunity.”
