EA edits Colin Kaepernick lyric out of song in Madden 19

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick got a small mention in one of the songs on the soundtrack for Madden 19, but creator EA Sports has reportedly edited the lyric from the newest editions of the video game.

A Twitter user who apparently had access to an advanced copy discovered the omission, which was reportedly later confirmed by Pro Football Talk. The line from Big Sean’s verse on the song, “Big Bank,”  is “You boys all cap, I’m more Colin Kaepernick.”

Big Sean took to Twitter on Thursday and called EA’s decision “disappointing and appalling.”

“It’s disappointing and appalling @NFL and @EA  took [Kaepernick’s] name out of my verse for Madden 19, like it was a curse word,” he wrote. “When he’s not a curse, he’s a gift! Nobody from my team approved any of this.”

Oddly enough, a player featuring Kaepernick’s likeness was available in last year’s Madden 18, but another song, Mike WiLL Made-It’s “Bars of Soap” also had its Kaepernick line (She be hopin’ that I take a knee like Kaepernick) removed.

The only logical reason to edit Kaepernick’s name out would be his current collusion case against the NFL. He alleges that several team owners, along with commissioner Roger Goodell, launched a concerted effort to keep another team from signing him because of his national anthem protest. Kaepernick hasn’t played since he opted out  of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in March of 2017.
