The Miami Dolphins cut Gabe Wright on Tuesday after the defensive lineman blindsided Kenyan Drake during practice the day before, ESPN reports.

“It was time for us to move on,” head coach Adam Gase said. “I don’t really think I need to get into more detail than that.”

Wright reportedly charged at Drake during Monday’s practice and leveled the running back while his helmet was off. An angry Drake then tossed Wright’s helmet to the sideline after a brief tussle. Drake did not appear to be injured during the fight, according to the report.

In his comments to reporters on Tuesday, Drake called the incident “unfortunate.”

“Hindsight is 20/20, especially when it comes to the severity of someone getting cut in that situation,” Drake said. “We’ve been banging for two weeks now. It’s easy to sit on the outside looking in saying, ‘You should have more composure.’ But tempers flare. It’s an unfortunate situation and I wish nothing but the best for him.”

Gase said he warned Drake about getting involved in fights because the Dolphins can’t afford to lose him in a similar situation during a game. He says he brought up last season and Week 17 when Drake was ejected for his involvement in a fight while sticking up for a teammate.

“It’s a little harder to call plays when he’s out of the game or he’s not even available,” Gase said. “We talked about that. I think he has a clear understanding we’re counting on him…I love his emotion, I love his passion. You don’t want to take that away, but at the same time, he’s a really good player and he’s young and we need to have him on the field.”
