Sacramento Kings center, DeMarcus Cousins, is adamant about staying with the team.

In recent weeks, reports surfaced that Cousins and the Kings organization were trying to work out the details of a max level contract extension that would keep the maligned but talented big man in town for years. Although there have been no reports that the extension was finalized, in an interview with Ramona Shelburne, Cousins indicated that he would be remaining a King.

“I’m very happy. It’s where I want to be,” said Cousins. “I think we’re on the right path this season. We’re playing the best basketball of the season so far. Our team is extremely confident. We believe we can make this push and make it happen. We’ve been preaching it all year. It’s on us to make it happen.”

Many were surprised about the decision of Cousins to remain with the franchise after a tumultuous tenure with the team thus far. Cousins has clashed with coaches and the front office on multiple occasions after questionable personnel decisions.

“I’m a guy that’s all about loyalty and honesty,” said Cousins of resolving his trust issues with the team. “It’s hard, but at the end of the day you gotta remember that this is a business. Your expectations can’t be too high when it comes to trust and loyalty. I realize that. I know it’s a business. At the end of the day I’m not always shocked. It still catches me off guard sometimes, but I’m not shocked.”
