Bill O'Brien claims he is staying in Houston

Houston Texans head coach, Bill O’Brien, alluded to his long term future being with the Houston franchise.

The reason for the comments O’Brien made were due to questions of his possibly being traded. Six National Football League teams currently have head coach openings. NFL Network Insider, Ian Rapoport, has reported that a number of those teams are investigating and pushing for the possibility of trading coaches for O’Brien, who is 28-22 over his career as an NFL head coach. There have been questions also of the Texans simply parting ways with O’Brien, despite his having guided them to the 2017 NFL postseason and winning 27-14 over the Oakland Raiders in a Wild Card game on Saturday.

“I have a five-year contract here,” said O’Brien when asked by reporters whether he had thought of moving on from Houston. “I have two years left on my contract. I’m looking forward to coaching here and I’m looking forward to getting ready for this next game. I think it’s a great win today for our team. I’m just really proud of our players. And I think our players, like I said earlier, they work very hard to get to this point. They dealt with the ups and downs. They’re where they are right now. At the end of this weekend there’ll only be eight teams left. And I think that’s a good accomplishment for this team right now but there’s more to be done. There’s more to play. And I know these guys will come in ready to work this week and I’m excited about that.”
