Aaron Donald has agreed to a six-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams worth $135 million with $87 milion guaranteed, ESPN reports.

The contract is reportedly the biggest for a defensive player in NFL history and could keep the 27-year-old defensive tackle in a Rams uniform through the 2024 season. The three-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl selection was heading into the fnal year of his rokie contract, which was scheduled to pay him $6.9 million in 2018.

The new deal guarantees that L.A. will begin the season with Donald on the field. The Rams also signed defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in the offseason and, along with the return of seventh-year defensive tackle Michael Brockers, could become one of the league’s stingiest defensive units.

Donald’s holdout this offseason dates back to 2017, as he’s been seeking a deal that would make him the highest paid defensive player in the league, or among the highest paid players in the league. His agent reortedly began negotiating the deal after the 2016 season, in which Donald finished his third year as a pro with 8 sacks, 5 deflected passes and 2 forced fumbles.

Donald held out the following offseason in 2017 and didn’t report to the team until the eve of the 2017 season opener, without a new contract in place. He finished the season with 11 sacks and five forced fumbles in 14 games and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
